ラ・シェネガ＆カフェは長野県松本市に位置する。建物は建築家の安井秀夫氏によって1998年に設計されたRC2階建てのファッションブティクである。新たに洋服の他に小さい小物を扱うスペースとカフェ機能を設けるため、ディスプレイ用の什器と内装をデザインすることとなった。'pata pata'は遊具のような什器である。（w:6,000mm,h:1,4000mm）84枚の扉で構成され、それぞれが簡単に脱着できる。扉を開ける行為のオノマトペから名づけられた'pata pata'は、シーズンに合わせて扱う小物の展示を、扉の開け閉めのバリエーションを変えることで、用意にレイアウトの表情を変えることができる。'waku waku'はスチールパイプとシナ合板で作られた可動式の展示棚である。枠（waku）で構成されたスチールの間に、シナ合板の天板が浮いているように作られている。別のハンガー用のパイプも同様に、既存のRCの壁に取り付けられ、半階さがった展示スペースへ来客者を誘導する。

‘la cienega and cafe’ is located in the center of matsumoto, a city in nagano prefecture, japan. the existing building was designed in 1998 by the architect hideo yasui to house a fashion boutique. more recently the client requested designs for furniture and the interior of a new cafe situated in the loft, with a provision for displaying lots of small objects and accessories.
‘pata pata’ wall-display furniture was designed like outdoor playground equipment for children. ‘pata pata’ (w: 6,000mm, h: 1,400mm) comprises 84 doors, each of which is an easily detachable element of a simple structure or can be folded out to obtain a display unit. ‘pata pata’ is onomatopoeia for the opening-and-closing sounds. shop staff are easily able to create and change display arrangements by exploiting these features of ‘pata pata’.
‘waku waku’ units (with shelves, or used as a simple clothes hanger) are made of steel pipe plus plywood as required. ‘waku waku’ expresses a feeling of fun, although ‘waku' simply means ‘frame’ in Japanese. we gave this elegant frame it a tense atmosphere, while the installation of floating shelves lightens its overall feeling and appearance. another pipe-made clothes hanger attached along the concrete stair leads customers downstairs to the shop’s clothing section.
at the center of the building, a tree formerly located in the garden of the client’s house is illuminated by a skylight, with additional surrounding pendant lights.
